Over 400 killed in Pakistan floods
    Nigeria Sun
    Friday 30th July, 2010
    (IANS)

Floods triggered by heavy rains have left at least 408 people dead in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, the local government said Friday.

Terming the calamity as the province's worst floods in history, Provincial Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain said hardships are being faced in supplying food to the flood-affectees, Geo TV reported.

The minister said seven to 10 helicopters have been requisitioned providing relief and rescue services to the marooned people in the province.

Thousands of people have been rendered homeless in the province, while many houses, bridges and roads have been completely washed away by floodwater due to incessant rains.

Heavy showers in Swat and Shangla districts have also led to massive destruction. At least 90 people were killed in Shangla district alone.
