    (IANS)

The Dubai Metro will celebrate its first anniversary Thursday, with over 30 million passengers having used the train service during the past one year.

On Sep 9, 2009, Dubai marked an achievement that cemented its standing on the global map as an excellent cosmopolitan city, with advanced living standards, officials said, adding that the metro uses state-of-the-art technology in rail industry and is one of the world's longest driverless metro projects.

Operational efficiency, punctuality in journey schedules and highest safety standards have been the success indicators, they said.

'The number of Dubai Metro users has been on the rise since its launch, from 1.8 million passengers in October 2009 to 3.3 million passengers in August 2010, recording a growth rate of 183 percent,' they said.
