Hundreds of children missing after Pakistan floods
    Nigeria Sun
    Friday 10th September, 2010
    (IANS)

Hundreds of children have been missing following the devastating floods in Pakistan, a media report said.

Some 10 million parents were separated from their children and many are still waiting to hear the fate of their children, Daily Times reported citing aid agencies Thursday.

A spokesman of the British organisation 'Save the Children' said it is difficult to estimate the exact number of missing children at this juncture but it could be in hundreds.

He added that his organisation is working vigorously with other partners to search and reunite these children with their parents.

Chief of aid organisation OXFAM in Pakistan, Mona Khan said some of the parents are not even sure if their children are alive. Searching these children itself is a big challenge.

Thousands of people had fled their homes to safer areas in the wake of the floods since July. Some are put up at relief camps, while others have made their own arrangements.

Though the floodwaters have been receding, the humanitarian situation remains worrying, aid agencies said.
